They say only 6 cowboys were able to ride Bodacious (The World’s Most Dangerous Bull) for longer than 8 seconds. But there’s a lot that can happen in 8 seconds. In our arena, it’s the time it takes to bring your palate on wild ride, Wine Country style. (Go ahead and take a sip, we’ll count it out for you).
If you’re looking to gain some style points from the judges, let us teach you a thing or two about making this year’s bottle of Bodacious. Saddle up; we’re taking you down to the cellar.

Vintage – AKA: What We Were Working With
2017 brought a rainy winter, enough to end a five-year drought in California. The weather in spring and early summer was mild, with just a few summer heat spikes. Warm weather over Labor Day weekend hastened picking during the first two weeks of September, with cooler temperatures arriving in mid-September to give the grapes extra time on the vine.
Winemaking – AKA: What We Made Of It
Each lot of hand-picked grapes was sorted, crushed and quickly moved to stainless steel tanks where the fruit underwent a 4-day cold soak to extract color and flavor prior to fermentation. Post-fermentation the wine underwent extended maceration to further the extraction of color, tannin and flavor from the delicate skins. Once dry, the lots were placed in small French oak barrels for a period of 21 months.
Tasting Notes – AKA: What To Look For
This bold red blend exudes deep black raspberry and baked black cherry flavors along with rich notes of espresso, tar, cola and dusty earth. The wine is full-bodied and plush with fresh acidity and a solid backbone. The tannins are smooth and the finish is fragrant. Despite its namesake, the 2017 Bodacious is friendly and approachable, lovely for enjoying today with friends and family.

90 POINTS - Jeb Dunnuck
"An interesting blend of equal parts Malbec and Petit Verdot, the 2017 Red Blend Bodacious offers a darker, spicy style as well as notes of violets, chocolate, and baking spices. Medium to full-bodied, with good purity, polished tannins, and a great finish..." February 2020
92 POINTS – The Wine Advocate
"A blend of 50% Malbec and 50% Petit Verdot, the deep garnet-purple colored 2017 Bodacious offers baked berries and lifted aromatics with earth and tar notes and a waft of hoisin. The palate is full-bodied, rich and plush with just enough freshness and a fragrant finish. Lovely wine! Drink Date: 2019 - 2032."—Lisa Perrotti-Brown, October 2019
